If you read our story about how the universe we currently live in probably is a simulation, and you're wondering how that's even conceivable, you don't have to look any further than Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard is one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, with several thriving esports, as well as the most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) of all time, World of Warcraft.

But it wasn't always like that for Blizzard. They didn't start out as an industry titan. They have grown into the powerhouse they are today, and they did so with the help of more simple and primitive games. Games like “The Lost Vikings”, and the first “Warcraft” and “Starcraft” games were nowhere near the technological marvels they produce today. But that evolution is what's interesting in this context.

Look at the progress Blizzard has made over the last quarter of a century. Look at the games they produce now. World of Warcraft, right now, serves as a simulation of a universe. 40 years ago we had Pong. Two rectangles bouncing a dot off of each other. Look at the amazing level of sophistication games have now, compared to the games made only 40 years ago. The development is impressive, and showing no signs of slowing down.

If the speed of progress in video game technology is maintained into the future, how long will it be before we as humans are able to create simulations indistinguishable from our own reality? It does seem like that's where we're headed. World of Warcraft is already a primitive version of just that. And there are millions of people playing that game. Imagine a future where millions, or billions of people are running super realistic simulations on their computer. It's not unlikely. In fact, it seems extremely likely that that will happen.

But that is still in the future. We cannot know for sure what the future will bring in regards to computer technology. But if you want a clue about what might happen then you should pay attention to Blizzard Entertainment.

Blizzcon, Blizzard's own gaming convention, is happening this upcoming weekend. It is a chance for us who are not on the inside of the company to have a glimpse of what is to come in the future. It's a chance to see where one of the gaming industry's leading forces is headed.

On top of that, there will be all sorts of presentations, as well as tournaments in some of their most popular games, such as Hearthstone and Overwatch.

While all convention tickets are sold out, it is possible to buy virtual tickets, so that you can catch all of the action and information from the comfort of your own home.

You'll find more information about the event right here: https://blizzcon.com/en-us/
