"The die is cast"

Those were the words uttered as an army crossed the river Rubicon on January 10, 49 BC. This crossing was strictly forbidden, and caused a civil war that we still experience the consequences of. The man uttering the words: Gaius Julius Caesar.
Reading things like these has been one of the most rewarding things in my life. Studying history is not something I do because I'm told by some random teacher to do so. I do it because I want to. I do it because it is extremely interesting, and there is so much to learn from it.
"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
I would like to show you a great source of information regarding ancient history. How things went back then relied heavily on how wars ended. The victors were free to write the history as they pleased.
One show that put a spotlight on this was a show called "Decisive Battles". It used to air on History Channel, but it only ran for a few episodes. Why they didn't make more of these is beyond me. It's not like there's not enough ancient battles to make at least one more season.
All episodes of the show are available on Youtube. They cover battles that involved Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Ramses, Hannibal, and Attila. They tell stories that led to the rise and fall of empires. It shows you how the battles were fought, and tells you about the build-up and outcome of them.
Please enjoy the show. You just might learn a thing or eight!
Here's episode 1:
