The Next WWE Superstar

Have you seen what the WWE is putting on their programs as of late? With the exception of a few performers, it's been pretty lackluster. I enjoy Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker. I marked out for Shane O'Mac when he came back. But other than that it seems like they don't have much to offer. I find myself tuning out more often than not. But fear not. I think i have an idea that could garner some interest.

Here it is:

Let me start with saying that I think people are sick and tired of the storylines they're pushing within WWE. Fair enough, the WWE doesn't mind letting their audience know that what they see on TV are fictional storylines, but I don't agree with how obvious they make it. It's so easy to tell that the "superstars" are just doing their job, and that their job is to portray characters in fictional stories. First of all, I will not call them "superstars". None of the full-time workers are superstars, maybe with John Cena as an exception. Maybe.

To me they are wrestlers. And that is a compliment. I have a ton of respect for wrestlers. i don't have too much respect for wannabe superstars. I don't have much respect for a wannabe soap-opera. What I do have respect for is the real deal. And that's what we need. Something real.

I know that Vinnie Mac controls everything that goes on in that company. I have also heard theories regarding how in or out of touch he might be with what's hip and cool today. I heard Shawn Michaels say the same thing in an interview where he was talking about how things were 20 years ago. TWENTY. YEARS. AGO.

Now, I will admit that I might not be as in touch with what's coll and hip as I think, but I do think I am, so I will give it a go.

My idea is to introduce a new competitor in the WWE as just that. A real competitor. I don't want him to have a gimmick. I don't want him to be a selfish bastard or another Super-Cena. I want him to compete.

I would have him come out on NXT and have him state that he doesn't care about the silly storylines, and the fake rivalries that goes on around him. His whole gimmick is that he wants to be the absolute best wrestler he can be. Of course it is a storyline, and of course it is a work, but it's made to seem real by not having him go through all the fictional bullshit every other wrestler goes through these days.

The wrestler himself would have to be someone who is actually really good as a technical wrestler. I believe his mic-skills wouldn't matter as much, since he would a be a no-nonsense kind of guys, who wouldn't talk much, but lets his work in the ring do the talking for him.

To make this work he must use words like "wrestling"and "sport" again, since that's what this is to him. He is not there to go over in feuds or win prop titles. He's there because he wants to become the best wrestler he can become. All he wants to do is challenge the best workers so that he can test his skills against them and maybe learn something. He would talk about how he wants to known as the next great worker. He would be a wrestler in the spirit of Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.

Now, this will of course be a work, but it needs to look like a shoot. It needs to be real. that's what people are looking for. They want something real. They don't want something that looks fake or constructed. If a match looks choreographed it will look more like two guys dancing. It looks like two guys helping each other through an acrobatic routine.

The new guy will have to challenge other wrestlers to a WRESTLING match. He's not doing it so that he can progress through a story. To him it's practice. His only concern is being the best that he can be. Titles and whatever else will come automatically if he becomes good enough. It doesn't matter who he faces. It could be anyone from the top guy to the lowest jobber. Again, he's just doing it to practice.

This "real"worker will have to work pretty stiff, but he also needs to be good and careful, so nobody is hurt. A perfect example would be the match between Scott hall and Disco Inferno from WCW. Notice when Disco is chopping Hall up in the corner, and then Hall reverses it. Look at Hall's face and how he delivers the chops to Disco. That shit looks REAL. But it was perfectly safe. That's the kinda effect, work, and intensity this new guy must have.

Here is the part from the Hall vs. Disco Inferno match I'm talking about:

OUCH! That's gonna leave a mark.

And that's what I think this next wrestler will do as well. If he can pull this off, I think it will catch a lot of people off guard, and I think he will be able to give them exactly what people are looking for. Let him be real, and let what he does be real.

Nobody wants more scripted reality-TV. People wants to be part of something real. Give them something real. Give them a real wrestler. Give them real wrestling. Give them someone to really believe in.
